Possums were getting into a Coburg roof through a slipped tile, which is an easy way in for them. The homeowner had recently moved to Australia, so we talked the whole job through on a translator app over tea and snacks. His roof needed some repairs and we gave him recommendations for those too.
What he had
My interesting job this week was after our meeting on Monday. The client in Coburg had a slipped tile on his roof and possums were getting in through it, which is quite an easy entrance for them.
He had just moved to Australia recently and he was a bit self-conscious about his English, so we used a translator app for all the communication. That does happen from time to time, and it was really easy.
The best part of the job
He was super, super lovely. He welcomed me in and sat me down, gave me tea and snacks and introduced me to his wife. He was such a gracious host and it was really heartwarming.
I was saying to him that it can be quite challenging explaining to people through these apps what we’re doing and the work we need to do. And he told me he’s a very extroverted, welcoming guy, and with love in your heart you can make friends with anyone. It was really, really nice. He’s a top bloke.
The roof
His roof needed some repairs, so we were able to give him some recommendations and help him out with that.
The bit most people miss
A translator app does the job. If English isn’t your first language, don’t let that put you off getting someone up on the roof. We’ll walk you through what we found and what needs doing, one sentence at a time if that’s what it takes.
Meeting people and being able to help them out is such a positive part of our job. We got to help him out, and he brought some joy to my day as well.
