Possums usually leave on the first night after we install the one-way exit. Occasionally they'll leave on the second night. They have to leave eventually; they need food and water, and they can't get that inside your roof. Once they're out, we return to do a final inspection, remove the exit door, and seal everything up.

Possums will usually hang around your property for a little while before finding a new home; often in a nearby tree or another roof. We actually recommend installing a possum box in one of your trees. It sounds counterintuitive, but giving them an alternative home means they're far less likely to try and re-enter your roof. Plus, it's the right thing to do for our native wildlife.
